Who Is Your Inner Voice?
What is the inner voice?
In simplest terms: The “inner voice” is one name for many things. We could also call it your higher self, inner being, inner wisdom, intuition, soul, maybe even the holy spirit or god if you want to be edgy about it. I rarely use those terms though.
That’s still a bit esoteric and vague…so what is the inner voice REALLY? It’s you, underneath your limiting beliefs, fears, and conditioning (aka what everyone else told you was true since childhood, what they told you you have to be, etc). It’s the truest and purest form of You.
What does it mean to connect with the inner voice?
When I hold space for people in sessions to connect with their inner voice, we do so through the body. We notice first how it feels, and where we feel that. And what are we feeling? A sensation of unconditional love, peace, and presence. Sometimes there are other sensations in the body that are louder (pain, constriction, heaviness, etc) so we spend time with those first until they get to neutral, and the inner voice can be heard underneath.
It’s so simple. And yet so difficult for those of us who were taught not to feel our bodies because daily life required us to disconnect. This is why I do it WITH people, guiding them, rather than doing something like connecting FOR them and providing “readings.” YOU have the wisdom for you. AND it’s also really helpful to have someone holding our virtual hand through it too.
Your inner voice is your sovereignty
So who is your inner voice? It’s your sovereignty. Speaking to you in words, or images, or feelings, or knowings. For myself and everyone else I’ve met, it feels like an altered state of consciousness, in a really uplifting and gentle way. It feels like the breath of fresh air that we may have been holding ourselves back from for a long time.
We often think that we are our THOUGHTS, aka the activity of our thinking minds. Not completely true. An important part of the “inner voice practice” (connecting on a regular basis, should you choose to) is feeling / knowing / understanding the difference between what is a thought, and what is wisdom from the inner voice. They feel very different.
Inner voice vs. thoughts
Thoughts are like the output from a machine in a factory (due to its programming and design, it’s limited in what it can do), and the inner voice is like the CEO of the factory (the possibilities are practically limitless).
Sometimes when we tune in to that inner voice place in the body, we ask questions the mind is wondering about. Or, sometimes it feels right to just bask in its presence and peace. Clearing out the energetic pipes, so to speak.
And why would we bother with this whole inner voice thing?
Because at a certain point in life, we are faced with a choice about how we want our life to be. Realistically, it’s probably many, many choices along the way.
In my experience, the inner voice helps us to continually choose a life of personal sovereignty, peace, love, presence, and expansiveness. The same way it feels in the physical body, we can spread this around to all areas of life—As much as we choose to.
That’s the other thing about the inner voice. It’s not a dictator. We ALWAYS have free will. We can choose this path, or the “hard” path, or any other number of paths we like. And we won’t ever do any of them perfectly, and the inner voice will never judge us for that either.
…Which brings me to the first reason why you want me as your inner voice facilitator and coach. Because I LOVE to be a guide for people who are brand new to this stuff. Even / especially when they’re not sure if they’re doing it right, and it all seems a little weird…But they can’t deny that they’re consciousness curious 😉
